What you'll receive
What happens when an employer raises a reference check on you: the email and secure link you receive, what we collect, and what the report says.
When an employer raises a reference check, you receive an email with a link to a secure page. On that page you can:
- Review what the employer has requested and what information we collect.
- Consent or decline to have your referees contacted.
- Nominate your referees (up to ten).
- Track the progress and replace referees if needed.
What we collect
We collect your name, email, role and the details you provide about your referees — their names, work emails, employers and your relationship. We do not collect your date of birth, address, ID documents, criminal or health data.
What the report says about you
The employer receives one report. It sets out what was checked and what came back — not a score, and not an opinion of you.
- Result at a glance — how many referees replied, and one word for each referee's reference, with whether they would employ you again.
- Checks — up to five checks per referee, depending on the kind of reference they are giving: their email address, the employer's registered record, the employment dates, the email domain's sender checks, and whether they replied. Each gets a result word, and the employer can select it to see the evidence.
- Ratings — how each referee rated you against what the role needed.
- In their own words — the referee's own written answers, exactly as they wrote them.
- Activity — when each referee was invited, reminded, and replied.
Where a referee never replies, the report records that as No response. It is not read as anything you or they said; it is the record that nothing came back, and it appears beside the referees who did reply.

Your privacy
Your data is retained for 3 months after the check closes, then deleted. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
