Credit returns and refunds
When PreHire returns a credit because a reference check cannot complete, how refunds work, and where to see it in your transaction history.
When a credit is returned
A credit is returned when the check cannot complete. This happens in these situations:
| Situation | Credit returned? |
|---|---|
| Candidate declines consent | ✓ |
| Candidate withdraws consent | ✓ |
| Consent link expires (14 days, no response) | ✓ |
| Employer cancels — no referee contacted | ✓ |
| Employer cancels — a referee was contacted | ✗ |
| Closing date passes — zero responses | ✓ |
| Closing date passes — at least one response | ✗ |
Refunds
Refunds come from Stripe (for example, if a charge is refunded). These are separate from credit returns. A refunded purchase is recorded as a refund in your transaction history.
Transaction history
Every return and every refund is a row on Credits under Recent activity, with the date, a description, the change and your balance after it. That panel shows the ten most recent; See all activity opens the full paged history. A refund names the purchase it reverses, and the purchase names the refund back. See Buying credits.
